Two exciting photo opportunities and we need as many of you to come along as possible!
On Monday 20 December 2021 at 4.45 pm and at 6.15 pm, ITV wish to do some live filming at the Lido. So the more people present the better (preferably some of you in the water!).
On Saturday 1 January 2022 at 11 amthe Mayor is coming along and there will be a photograph taken with swimmers/ Friends of the Lido.
Please put these dates in your diary and come along, with friends and family.
Please join us at the Friends of Jesus Green Lido AGM on Zoom. It’s a chance to connect with the Committee, discover more about the lido’s past, present and future, and get more involved in your swimming community.
We will be reporting on our successes in 2021, recruiting new committee members, and looking forward to celebrating Jesus Green Lido’s forthcoming centenary.
Come along! Join us! Have your say! at the:
Friends of Jesus Green Lido AGM, Wednesday 12 January 2022 at 7.00 pm.
Over the next few days, we will be changing our booking system. You may experience some difficulties with booking until this change has been completed on the 1st of December. After the change, you may be required to reset your password before you are able to book online or on the App.
If you are having any issues after the 1st of December, please contact us at Jesus.Green@GLL.org or visit reception when we are open.
Email version of the booking system changes
Hi All,
I wanted to let you know that overnight tonight we will be changing over our front of house (and App) booking system. This is to come in line with the rest of Cambridge who changed over in June this year. We have left it as late as possible and obviously, it was going to be closed but now we are keeping it going we have to make this change.
This will mean that after 8pm tonight the system will go offline and it will be down until around 12pm tomorrow when it will then come back live.
The same App icon is still valid so no need to download the App again – it will just look slightly different when you go to book.
Bookings are essentially all the same though and the way you book is very similar (you are still booking an entry timeslot for example)
When you then go into your App once it comes back live you should receive a pop up asking you to reset your password (please make a note of the requirement for capital letters, numbers and special characters as these have to be included in your new password).
Once you have created a new password you will be logged in and good to go again.
One thing I do need to make you aware of is if you have a Better Booking membership (it will say this on your membership card icon) then you will need to register for a new account once the system is up and live as these are essentially non-member accounts that do not transfer with the new system. Anyone who has a pay & play or a prepaid membership will be transferred across.
If you have any issues or know of people having issues then the below e-mails can be given to help them (these are Parkside people as they have been using it for months whereas the Jesus Green staff will be new to it):
We are very pleased to let all Friends know that the Lido will be open in December as follows:
FROM 5 December 2021
Mondays 7 am – 11 am and 4 pm – 7 pm
Thursdays: 7am – 11am and 4pm – 7pm
Sundays: 7am – 11am
Added to this, the Lido will open daily from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm from Boxing Day (26 December) to New Year’s Day (1 January 2022). So this will be a week’s worth of daily swimming available over the Christmas Holidays.
We encourage all swimmers to book and come along so that we keep this magnificent facility open all winter. Swim safe.
On New Year’s Day, Better would like to organise a group photo. Time to be confirmed.
Our renewed thanks to Better and to the Council for enabling the extended season to happen.
The Friends’ Committee presented Fitzbillie’s Chelsea buns to the Better staff and a plant to Mary in the cafe, together with cards signed by many swimmers. On behalf of everyone, we gave our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for their hard work and for making our visits to the Lido such a warm and positive experience.
After a fantastic uptake in cold water swimming at Jesus Green Lido over the Autumn period, Better has confirmed the following operating hours will take effect from 1st November 2021:
Monday 7am-11am & 4pm-7pm
Tuesday 7 am-11 am
Wednesday Closed
Thursday 7am-11am & 4pm-7pm
Friday Closed
Saturday Closed
Sunday 7am-4pm
Your membership will remain live throughout the winter months which allows these extended hours to be possible. Plus, if the water does become a little chilly as the winter months draw in, don’t forget selected membership also includes access to over 150 swimming pools across the UK which includes local indoor pools in Cambridge at Parkside Pools & Gym and Abbey Leisure Complex. Please check with a Better member of the team to find out which pools you have access to.
The Friends of Jesus Green Lido Committee would like to thank Better, the Council and all of our loyal swimmers for their support. We look forward to seeing you through the winter as well as the summer and autumn months!
Information for those planning to join our visit to Felixstowe on 10th
October – please note that the Felixstowe Triathlon will be taking place
on this day. Consequently, the town is likely to be busy and car parking
will, no doubt, be at a premium.
However, there should still be plenty of space in the sea for our swim!
We’re delighted to announce that further to our consultation, in partnership with Cambridge City Council, Jesus Green Lido will remain open into the winter months. Opening times from the 20th September – 31st October are below and if there is demand the season will be extended further 🙂
Better will make a decision about the opening times from November having reviewed demand over the next two months.
The Friends’ Committee expressed their delight at the decision reached jointly between The City Council and Better, with key support from local councillors, and are grateful to all involved in continuing to show their support for the Lido.
Calling all swimmers! Do keep going through the autumn; it’s so beneficial to health and well being, and a great way to meet friends outdoors.
Although we don’t yet know when, or if, our pool will close for the winter we plan to make our usual autumn visit to Felixstowe on Sunday 10th October
Meet on the beach near the Fludyers Hotel at approximately 11.30 for a swim then a walk, coffee and perhaps fish and chips. Please be aware that this is an informal arrangement and that we cannot take any responsibility for organising transport – we suggest that individuals arrange appropriate car sharing. Alternatively, travel by train should be possible by catching the 09.00 train from Cambridge arriving at 11.21 with a change at Ipswich. Return services run hourly @ 15.25, 16.25 etc. High tide should be at approximately 15.00
