We would like to hold a pre-season meeting on Tuesday 14th March 2017 from 6.30pm to 8pm to discuss the 2017 season.
The meeting will take place in Hobbs Pavilion on Parkers Piece (I have booked and double checked booking the room).
If you could ask people to let me know if they wish to attend that would be great so that I can keep track of numbers (julie.durrant@cambridge.gov.uk). I am also happy if anyone is unable to attend but would like to raise any items that they forward them to me in order for them to be included.
Kind regards
Julie

Swim the Cam 2017 – call for volunteer organisers!
The team behind last year’s ‘Swim the Cam’ event are looking for volunteers to help organise another ‘Swim the Cam’ for summer 2017. ‘Swim the Cam’ is a sponsored 3.8km swim in the River Cam from Byron’s Pool to Sheep’s Green. Primarily it is to raise money and awareness for the Cambridge Sustainable Food Hub project, but participants are welcome to raise sponsorship for a cause or charity of their own choice as well. 23 swimmers participated in last year’s swim, and the finish line event was attended by the mayor of Cambridge, Jeremy Benstead.
If you’re keen to volunteer, please email Duncan Catchpole, duncan@cofco.co.uk
Change of Location Following feedback on trips to Dunwich in recent years we decided to suggest Felixstowe instead of Dunwich for 2016.
We felt that the benefits were:
Relatively safer swimming at all states of the tide
Easier, quicker access by car from Cambridge with easy parking
Accessible by public transport from Cambridge
Numerous cafes for lunch and afternoon cakes
Plenty of shelter if needed
Possibly a beach hut as a base – thanks to Seamus
Trip Report
On Sunday 9th October, in a break with tradition, we visited Felixstowe for our annual Autumn swim in the sea.
The day proved to be a great success and started well with bright sunshine although there was a heavy rain shower just as most of were changing after swimming – never mind, the sun soon reappeared and some even returned to the sea later in the day!
The result was a very enjoyable day out, with around 27 people attending and many positive comments.
Swim the Cam, CSF’s exciting new challenge aimed at raising money for the Food Hub Project, The event takes place on Saturday 23rd July, starting at 11am.
The swim is 3.8 km from Byron’s Pool in Grantchester to Sheep’s Green in Newnham, Cambridge. Experienced swimmers are asked to register by emailing duncan@cofco.co.uk. CSF also needs stewards and other volunteers on the day. There will be a party at the finishing line from 12 noon, with refreshments from the foodPark collective.
Read more about Swim the Cam here and more about the Cambridge Food Hub project here. You can sponsor a swimmer or donate to the Food Hub project here.

The pool is currently at a barmy 18.6degrees for the weekend 🙂
My name is Helen and I am the Assistant Manager at Jesus Green Lido this year.
Pre-season preparation and refurbishments are well under way and looking great. I am really excited about this season.
This year we thought it would be a nice idea to have a ‘working party’ in preparation for the season ahead. We would like to invite you down to the Lido on Tuesday 10th May to help with the final touches to the lido. These things may include sweeping, touching up some paint work, weeding, window cleaning…the smaller details that will make a huge difference to the overall feel to the Lido. For anyone who would like to help out, we will open the doors at 10am. We will have spring cleaning from 10am to 2pm followed by opening up the lido for anyone who has contributed and would like a fresh swim from 2-3pm. Please let me know if you are interested in getting involved.
We will have some brushes, tools and paint brushes, but anyone who has their own that they could bring with them, it would be really appreciated.
I would also like to invite you down to the Lido on Friday the 13th of May for the pre-opening event. We will be opening the pool between 17.30 and 18.30 for anyone who would like a swim. There will be complimentary food and drink available from our newly refurbished café. We hope that you can all make this event.
I look forward to meeting you all and to a great season.
Present: Daryl Emes – Better/GLL Partnership Manager, Todd Baxter – Better/GLL General Manager, Ian Ross – Cambridge City Council and around 25 ‘friends’ of Jesus Green Pool
1 Men’s showers – variable water temperature seen as related to pressure variability and the Houseboat discharge facility adjoining the Men’s shower block – being investigated.
2 Ladies Showers & drainage – drains being cleared of roots (as they are every year)
3 Men’s toilets smell from houseboat discharge – essentially a design problem with the interconnected drains. Being investigated but probably little prospect of any immediate fix.
4 Cleanliness of showers & toilets – request from those present for better monitoring by pool staff
5 Pool water quality – much discussion about occasional poor water quality. Usually occurs during busy periods when the filter pumps struggle to cope with the volume of water – not thought to be related to sun cream usage.
6 Lane etiquette – Ensure that lane/direction boards are placed (& fixed) at both ends of the pool – request for pool staff to monitor problems and take action when necessary.
7 Staffing & lane closures – aim is to keep open the whole pool at all times. Suggestion that Triathlete swimmers should be restricted to their own lane when possible.
8 Opening times – Times are expected to follow last years schedules with additional extended opening times unlikely (although a special occasion late opening will be looked into eg. mid-summer day?)
9 Cafe provision – Cafe will be run in-house by Better/GLL with a limited offer of drinks and snacks. Note – A Catering Manager has been appointed at Parkside and will be responsible for Jesus Green.
Other items:
There was a general acknowledgement by those present that GLL have improved the running of the pool and were thanked for their efforts.
Summer 2016 opening date: Saturday 14th May (also a brief opening evening of Friday 13th May)
Trees – there is a long term plan to remove all the the Lelandi and replace with alternative trees.
Post meeting note – The new Catering Manager, Maurizio Cavaliere has been in touch and is keen to promote the new cafe at Jesus Green Pool.
notes of the meeting taken by RF and approved by DE
We’ve put a small team together to swim for Sport Relief. It’s the first time that we have done so but as we swim together 3 times a week it seems like a good idea – we’re aiming for 160 lengths on Friday 18th March at Cambridge Parkside Pool. Do come along and support us

The annual Winter ‘Bring and Share’ Lunch went very successfully today and many thanks go to Francis and Richard for the organisation particularly in securing the Jack Hobbs meeting room through Better.
A perfect location and venue for the event. Well over 30 members turned up for a very pleasurable social complete with mulled wine.
One black beanie hat was found during clearing up please contact Geoff if you lost it.
